Black & White Storytelling

Winners & Finalists Photo Contest

Black and white is a different way of seeing the world.
It is often thought that black and white is a simple technique to manage in photography, but it is not.
Through black and white the photographer shows us his world in colours, playing with shades of gray, shadows and lights.
The greatest photographers have tried their hand at black and white photography and many of them have never abandoned this technique.

The Black and White Photo Contest has ended and we finally have the winners. Our judges chose the best 5 photographers. It was not an easy choice, the quality of the photos presented in this edition was very high. We are pleased to announce the winners of the Balck & White Photo Contest (Storytelling).

Congrats to all the photographers.

Black Ice Project

Ice is getting rarer and the ice in Siberia has never been that thin at the end of October. Climate change is visible and felt everywhere. The ice is melting very fast everywhere in de world.
With this series of photos, which shows abstractions of the ‘black’ ice on Lake Baikal, I want to show artworks on the wall in order to start global warming as a topic of conversation.
In reality, the ice also looked almost black in that area and what you see here are macros of the cracks in the ice. These photos were taken in the first half of February at temperatures of -35 ° C.
But for how long?
These series of photos must be seen in the wright order for presentation. From left to right : BlackIce1 – BlackIce2 – BlackIce3.

I am an amateur and professional photographer and I am a university employee in the microwave and remote sensing field. I have been photographing for about 15 years and with the advent of digital I have become even more passionate. I have had some awards ranging from prizes in some competitions to some printed publications in magazines in the photography sector. In free time, in addition to photographing, I manage a photography portal: http://www.micromosso.com where I share ideas and photos with other enthusiasts. Since 2014 I hold the position of President of a Photographic Club based in Tivoli (Rome)

3rd Place

Ansje Visser
Netherlands
Ansje Visser (1959) Photographer, writer Amsterdam, The Netherlands “To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” — Elliott Erwitt Photography is a form of meditation for me. Strolling around on your own and let you eye lead you is very relaxing and also exciting. Travel, nature, everyday life, underwater world and reflections are my favourite themes. I organize photo walks, give photography lessons, teambuilding activities and photo coaching. I enjoy it very much when students go from just looking to seeing an interesting image during the lessons. Everything is photographable as long as you get an interesting angle. I developed a coaching method for people with problems through photography. It is like creative therapy. I worked with a group of people with incipient dementia. They were so proud when we ended the photography course with and exhibition. Writing is my other passion. I am an author of 6 children’s books, 1 poem book, 3 life stories and several photography books. Between 2013 and 2020 I had 5 exhibitions and events of free work. Creativity is essential in my life, a necessity. Besides my work as a photographer and writer I also work as a volunteer coordinator for a health care organization in Amsterdam.
